Major Airlines that Operate From Keflavik Airport
Air Iceland is the only operator to Egilsstadir Airport from Reykjavik. The flight is daily in summer and every other day, weather permitting, in winter.

Major Destinations Served by the Airport
Reykjavik is the only destination reachable from the airport although if you want to try somewhere different, you can take the ferry to the Faroe Islands and on to Denmark’s port of Hirtshals.

Onward Journey From the Airport
Egilsstadir straddles the country’s ring road so it’s easy to get around by car. Seydisfjordur is the next community along where the Danish ferry docks.

Driving Conditions
Being on a plain, Egilsstadir doesn’t suffer the colder conditions of higher altitudes but it’s still snowy and cold in winter. Be prepared to be snowed in occasionally in winter but make sure that between October and March you ask for snow chains or winter tyres on your hire car.

Places to Stay
There are only two hotels in Egilsstadir; the Edda and the Icelandair Hotel. Both are great but expensive. Do like everyone else and stay in a cosy guesthouse – there are plenty to choose from.

Must See Places Near Egilsstadir Airport

• Hallormsstaðaskógur. In a country not known for its forests this is reputedly Iceland’s largest. It’s home to many hardy birds of prey as well as some equally hardy wildlife.
• Skriduklauster. This is the home of the renowned Icelandic author Gunnar Gunnarson who wrote the first Icelandic story to be turned into a movie.
• Hengifoss. Iceland has quite a few waterfalls and one of the best is Hengifoss. It’s certainly the tallest waterfall in Iceland at nearly 400ft in height.  
• For a great drive in Eastern Iceland, Take the route known as Oxi which goes from Djupivogur to Egilsstadir. It goes up through mountain passes with great views out over the landscape.
